It has been an interesting month for the Sprite Club of SA! Just when you think things were back to normal the COVID-19 bug ramps up another gear.
We did have the Classic Sports Car Cruise to Gawler and from all reports it was a great success, the weather was fine and the the drive on the new Northern Connector was a chance for some members to drive this road for the first time. Thanks to Pat Miller for his efforts arranging this drive.
The following day was the last MSCA Supersprint for the year. While Mallala can be windy on most days, the the weather gods had gathered together and all headed to the circuit!
In the words of our Competition Secretary Pat Miller “First it rained then lightning knocked out the power grid for the area, no PA, no timing, the wind came up in the afternoon blowing all shade tents away along with raised dust and a temp of 40deg.” Reports of those driving open cars along the back straight being buffered by the wind was rather scary.
After the third run the event was called off with all concerned happy to be be heading home, though there were some vehicles that did not survive the heat – Gerard Miller’s Plymouth Special suffering a head gasket failure.
Then it was time to get ready for the ReUnited-ReUnion Dinner. And what a week that was! The COVID-19 restrictions started to escalate due to the Parafield/Woodvile Pizza Bar issue. On Monday things were looking ok, but the room size may have been an issue, then on Tuesday we may have to reschedule to fit all 40 members in the restaurant, then on Wednesday the State went into lockdown and the Dinner was off!
Special thanks to Michael McClaren and the committee for their assistance with this week. The email traffic was high, the phone was running hot and lots of quick thinking and decisions needed to be made, before the lockdown finally sealed the deal.
Therefore the Dinner has been postponed until 2021!
We will inform all of you the date for next year once things settle back to normal after the New Year. We have your payments and will put these forward to the Dinner at the appropriate date. Please contact the Committee if you have any queries about the Dinner for 2021.
Due to these current restrictions the December Meeting will also be cancelled. we will be unable to have the Christmas BBQ as per usual, and the room restrictions for the Fullarton Park Community Centre have also changed, with a reduction in the number of people we can have in the room and the recommendation of wearing face masks while in the room.
We will open the Centre on Monday 7th December from 7.00pm and have the Treasurer and Club Registration Officers available to allow members to pay their Subs and have their Log Books signed and registration papers signed and stamped, so they will be legal if members drive their vehicles over the Christmas Break.
More details to follow.
Yours Spritely
Gordon Boyce – President and the Committee of the Sprite Club of SA
