Vale – Kym Ninnes

The following words and photos are from Clubbies SA Sean Power and the Clubbies SA Facebook Page.

Kym was a member of Clubbies SA and the Sprite Club of SA for many years – joining to compete in a range of events across Australia.

I will let Sean Power continue with some of Kym’s life story………………………………

Sad news – death of Kym Ninnes

I have just heard formally that our long term ClubbiesSA member, Kym Ninnes died at home last Saturday, 10th October, 2026.

Kym was a stalwart in our ClubbiesSA group from early on, with a zest for Clubbie life that was amazing. Always present with a cheeky smile, ready to volunteer and offer help and a wry sense of humour, he will be greatly missed by club members.

And what a Clubbie life he led! Omnipresent at nearly every type of motorsport event in SA such as the Collingrove Hillclimb, The Bend, and Mallala for year after year after year. Rain, hail or shine.

Interstate too, at most of the key racing venues such as Phillip island, Bathurst and many others, not just once but several times with many of us over the years. Indefatigable in his ability to go everywhere and anywhere, just to drive and enjoy a Clubbie life…..

I was there at Victoria Square in the teeming rain when the Adelaide Lord Mayor Michael Harbison waved him off on his extended solo trip. Kym had a built mini trailer attached to his Clemente Clubbie to support all his camping gear as he travelled the full coastline of Australia.

And Kym was always proud to say, his trip included not just the mainland but all the main off-shore islands too, including Tassie, Fraser, Rottnest and Phillip Island….

He wrote a booklet of his travels, and self published it, and punctuated it with anecdotes and pictures of his travels. What a traveller.

Kym travelled with many of us to National Clubbie events. In fact, at one of the events he got the award for the longest traveller to a Nationals as he tacked his attendance at the event onto his trip around Oz. At the three SA Nats we organised, 2007, 2011 and 2019, he was amongst the first to volunteer his services and his support and friendliness at these, as it was at every local first and third Sunday events, was always with a smile and good humour. His clubbie enthusiasm was boundless.

Finally, if you knew Kym, it would be no surprise that he clearly wanted in his final will, no public funeral or fuss or grieving at his passing, but his ashes simply to be scattered at specific locations that he requested.

That was Kym and a measure of the great bloke that he was…..

Vale Kym, thanks for such a long drive together over the years.
