Peas, Pies and Rocker Cover Racing
As you likely ALL know, the night of Rocker Cover Racing is fast approaching. Whilst some of us are sitting on potential winning Rocker Cover Racers, its not to late to get building and be the dark horse on the night and take home the choccies!
The track is ready, thanks to Ray Mossop of the Sporting Car Club loaning us his and its a beaut. Approximately 11m in length when assembled and we have borrowed several of Ray’s rocker cover racers for those without one.
BUT it not to late to start building! As A Series (and B Series for that matter) rocker cover racers seem to be rarer than rocking horse poo, we will accept racers built from other engines so, if you haven’t already, get building. We have approximately 40 people attending so, if you have not already, please let myself or Grant & Angela know so you are catered for.
The rules for a racer can be found at the bottom of this post and the ‘track’ will be open for practice from 6:30pm (note the amendment below from this mornings email below!!)
There will be raffles on the night ($5 gets you three tickets), raffle donations would be warmly welcomed!
BYO drink and a plate to share (sweet or savoury).
Sat 30 August, Club Rooms (Fullarton Centre), from 6:30 onwards. $15 per head, collectable on the night or EFT

ROCKER COVER RACING – THE RULES!
The Racing Format
Rocker cover races take place on a sloped track, approximately 5 meters in length with another 5 meters of flat. The goal is to reach the finish line first!
The Rocker Cover:
- The vehicle must be constructed using an A-Series rocker cover, ensuring authenticity and honouring the engine’s legacy. Given how hard it is to find an old A series rocker cover, we will accept other engine types!
- The rocker cover itself must not be modified. No aerodynamics allowed!
- It may be mounted on a plinth or drilled to mount wheels.
Maximum allowable width – 210mm (otherwise it might not fit on the track!)
Maximum allowable length – not more than 80mm longer than the rocker cover itself.
Wheels (amended): please note the updated regulations with regard to wheels!
- All racers must have at least
fourthree wheels. - All races must have at least three wheels must in contact with the track at all times
- Wheels may be constructed from any material, including, but not limited to, plastic, timber, carbon fibre and steel. For Sprite Club racing, steel wheels do not need a rubber cover.
Wheel Size: not more than 150mm diameter (6″)
Max weight: 3kg. THERE WILL BE SCALES. There is no minimum weight,
Oil Caps: Cars must have an oil cap fitted in its standard location but breather lines may be removed.
Aerodynamics: You must not add aerodynamic aids or modify the original valve cover height.
Power: Racers are powered by gravity alone. No motors, magnets, jet power etc!
If you can’t find a rocker to modify, bring a tonka truck (not one of the the current HUGE size tho as it won’t fit on the track) or even a Matchbox or HotWheels car.
