The Park alongside the Fullarton Park Community Centre is named Kumangka -which means “together” in Kaurna and “signifies a place of people coming together”.

So this is the ideal location to hold the Sprite Club’s annual Christmas Picnic prior to the December General Meeting. Nearly 40 people attended the perfect evening for a picnic and get together.

While people enjoyed their BYO Picnic dinner, the Club provided a vast range of beverages to lubricate the members. This spot with the eskies was a popular meeting place for the male members of the Sprite Club!

President Gordon interrupted the proceedings to Welcome all and make a small announcement.

During the coming week Life Member Gary Brock will be turning a Spritely 90 years old! Gary and wife Fay have been extremely active in the Sprite Club, and other community groups for many years.

There was a few kind words and Gary was presented with an embroidered Sprite Club jacket. A quick chorus of “Happy Birthday” and a range of speciality cup cakes appeared to finish off the picnic.

Soon it was time to head inside for the General Meeting part of the night. After the usual minutes, financial and associated reports, it was time for General Business.

President Gordon announced the competition trophy winners for 2021.

These winners were:

Sprite Driver of the Year – Clive Spreadbury

Associate Driver of the Year – Gerard Miller

Lady Driver of the Year – Helen Stephenson

Encouragement Award – Lee Kernick

Gerard was the only one present, so the the other trophies will be presented in the near future.

Pat Miller had calculated that all of the Sprite drivers had totalled over 680 laps of both the Bend and Mallala circuits during the year!

Congratulations to all of these deserving winners!

The evening soon drew to a close and the members said their goodbyes and passed on Christmas and Festive Season Greetings.

Thanks must go to the following for supplying the drinks, cup cakes, Gary’s gift and for transporting Gary and Fay from Gumeracha to the meeting and return.
