Sunday 21st February was the first Super Sprint for 2016. We awaoke to a very hot day with a hot northern wind, and a forecast of 38 degrees. Not ideal !
However it was the Sprite’s Club turn to help out on the flag points. So given the bad weather forecast we still had 6 brave souls turn up for the flaggies task. They were : Paul Doube, Chris Brine, Dean King, Gordon Boyce, David Dineen and David Low. The Club wishes to thank those people for turning up and drivers also appreciated our efforts. I had drivers from another Club thank me, so the effort was well appreciated.
Those who did turn up were able to see 6 of our members competing . Those being :Barry Edson, Kym Ninnes, Pat Miller, Clive Spreadbury, Patrick Kukla and Helen Stephenson.
Patrick Kukla was their for his maiden track appearance in his newly acquired Suzuki Swift GTI. His was understandably nervous. At the end of the day he achieved a best time of 1.34.7 which was very good for a first effort. Patrick can see mistakes he made and can now work on improving his times. At the days end you could not get the smile off his face.
Helen Stephenson continues to improve and show real skills driving the Hyundai Excel. Barry Edson seemed to be the fastest from our group, although Kym Ninnes was close. Pat Miller had a fuel pump problem near the end of the day. Clive Spreadbury was not in his Sprite, but in a Renault Clio.
The day was over by mid afternoon and some called in to the Mallala pub, on the way home, for a cooling down drink. Despite the conditions it was a very enjoyable day, so if you missed the fun make sure you grab the opportunity next time. We need to support these guys that are having a real go at enjoying their cars.
