Flashback Friday – Bordertown – Part 2

October in the Sprite Club Calendar during the 1970’s and 1980’s was always marked with Bordertown as the highlight event where the SA Sprite Club of SA and the Victorian Austin Healey Sprite Drivers Club members gathered at this border-village to have a motorkhana, a few drinks and some fun times.

This event has been covered in a previous Flashback Friday (Oct 2024) which outlined the history of the event and the camaraderie that formed between the two interstate clubs.

In recent months the Austin Healey Sprite Drivers Club, as part of their 60th Birthday Celebrations have put together a video of the stories and interviews of those who attended the event over the years and each have retold their stories of the fun times that they had while at Bordertown.

Our thanks to the AHSDC, John Niemann and Warren Reid for their work putting this together and sharing this with our club.

And while on the subject of Bordertown, Sprite Club Member Paul Charal has been going through his old photos from the early 1980’s and has a range of photos of one of the muddy motorkhanas at the Tolmer Speedway in Bordertown.

Here is a sample of the cars in the mud……

Thanks to the AHSDC, John Niemann, Warren Reid and Paul Charal for the video recording and the photographs used in this article.
